Pohutukawa Fact Sheet
Pohutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa) grows around the coastlines and in coastal forests of the North Island from Cape Reinga to Mawhai Point on the east coast to Urenui on the west coast.

Northern Rata Fact Sheet
Northern rata (Metrosideros robusta) is abundant in coastal, lowlands and hilly forests throughout the North Island and in the north western part of the South Island.

Southern Rata Fact Sheet
Southern rata (Metrosideros umbellata) is distributed in the North Island from near Kaitaia to the Tararua Range. It is common in the South Island, particularly on the west coast.

Bartlett's rata (Metrosideros bartlettii) grow at the very tip of the North Island, only 30 adult trees remain of this species.
